Brief Overview of the Course

The Rural Community Newspaper (MAC 327) takes a look at the communication pattern and structure in a community, with emphasis on how a community is formed and how the different elements thereof relate. Rural community newspaper (RCN) is therefore introduced as a form of community media through which the information needs of the host community can be serviced. The Course takes a look at the RCN- its characteristics, roles, editorial contents and design. It also embraces discourses on how to establish and manage the rural community newspaper; the production, circulation and marketing as well as problems of and survival mechanism of the RCN.
