Introduction to Prose Fiction is a 2 unit course that introduces students to the genre of literature which gives an overview of the course. It also provides information on the origin, development and the major elements of prose fiction with reference to some texts.

Course Aim:

i. To expose students to the concept of fiction and prose fiction

ii. To expose students to the different sources of prose fiction (Epic, the Bible, Romance etc)

iii. To present the related texts on prose fiction to the students

Course Objective

At the end of the course, students should be able to:

a. Trace the sources of prose fiction

b. Discuss the contribution of scholars such as Giovanni Boccaccio and Chancer to prose fiction

c. Discuss the elements of prose fiction 

d. Discuss the thematic preoccupations of the novels studied in the course.

e. Analyse sample short stories bringing out their characteristics.
